Story board: Respire’s Recycling Initiative

In the heart of Respire USA, every KN95 mask begins its journey with a promise—a promise of sustainability, comfort, and effectiveness. Our masks are designed with care and precision and represent more than just a shield against unwanted elements; they are a testament to our commitment to a fully sustainable economy.

As each mask is crafted, we imbue it with our ethos of eco-friendliness, using recyclable materials to ensure that our process is thoughtful from the beginning to the end. From the drawing board to the production line, every step is taken with the utmost respect for environmental sustainability, reflecting our dedication to the well-being of our community and our planet.

The life of a mask should not end in a landfill, contributing to the growing concern of PPE waste that threatens our oceans, wildlife, and natural landscapes. The stark reality of disposable masks piling up, turning from protectors into pollutants, has driven us at Respire to take a bold step forward. We introduce "Respire's Recycling Initiative," a groundbreaking program designed to extend the life cycle of every mask, turning end-of-use into a new beginning.

Through our Recycling Initiative, we invite you, our community, to join us in transforming used masks from waste into wealth, participating in a circular economy that not only reduces the impact of PPE and plastics waste but also paves the way for innovation and sustainability. This initiative isn’t just about recycling; it’s about reimagining the future of environmental stewardship, where every mask recycles is a step closer to a cleaner, greener planet.

Respire USA has partnered with TerraCycle, a global leader in innovative sustainability solutions with offices in 20 countries around the world to be our recycling partner worldwide. Join us in our sustainability journey to be a part of the solution for reducing waste and let’s walk the walk together for a cleaner, breathable future!

From families sorting their used masks into our prepaid mailing envelopes, to businesses setting up collection points for employees, or returning waste from community clean ups, the collective impact of these actions is profound. Each mask upcycled is not merely waste diverted from landfills, but a symbol of hope, a testament to what we can achieve together.

Multi-Initiative Program

  1. Establish recycling points/kiosks to drop off specific items like masks, grocery bags, gloves, plastics. These kiosks (ie Terracycle) could offer incentives such as discounts, digital currency, or loyalty points for every item recycled. QR Code can be added to kiosk.
  2. Upcycling workshops: organize workshops or partner with local artists and businesses where community members can bring items that are difficult to recycle, such as certain plastics or textiles, and learn how to upcycle them into new products.
  3. Engage the community in transforming plastic waste into useful items – open to all community members and environmental enthusiasts.
  4. Utilize local community centers, schools, or outdoor public spaces for workshops
  5. Organize local clean up days – provide gloves and trash pickers for those who attend.
